New Twitter app Periscope for marketing

Well – have you all seen it yet?

Just when you thought you’d seen everything, got thousands of followers on twitter, and got your social media buzzing with activity, up pops Periscope – pardon the pun.

Yes there is a new social media app on the planet and its going crazy. Periscope, bought by Twitter for a cool $100 million lets you connect like you do on Twitter but with live video – yes live video.

Instead of sitting quietly tweeting people your opinions and thoughts you can now allow people to watch you and let them talk to you as you talk or sit or do whatever it is you do. Voyeurism has never had it so good.

Already many TV presenters in the US are actively using it to show us behind the scenes as they broadcast live to the world. Pat Taney and Nikki Rudd of News 10 NBC Today in Rochester being early adopters. They simply switch on and put their smart phones next to their coffee cup on their desk while everyone connected watches them go about their business of broadcasting to TV while quietly talking to us as we watch from the sidelines.

It gives a fascinating insight into their work and how a TV show is broadcast. This could be very useful for showing the world an activity like cooking or demonstrating a technical skill like drawing or painting.

In graphic design and website design it could be useful to showcase your skills and artistic ability. Its use is endless if you can put up with the insults that come occasionally.

So give it a try – add it to your digital marketing – whilst not for everyone it may just add something to your marketing mix and help your overall promotion.
